Summer / Fall 2008

New Staff

1)  Kathy Bostic recently joined our staff as Dental Assistant.  Please read more about Kathy B. in our About Us pages.  Welcome aboard, Kathy!!

2)  L. T. Schoonover also has been working in the office during the past few months.  He has been invaluable in getting our network up to speed, and has also assisted at chairside, updated our data backup systems, and helped to get our website renovated.

New Location

Now that our Elkins landlord, Dr. Rhee has retired, it has become necessary for us to re-locate.  So, Dr. Larry has obtained a building at 200 South Randolph Avenue in Elkins.  It’s on the corner of South Randolph and Graham, and for now it is a little white house.  Now we’re very near the Kroger and the McDonalds, and right next door to the Meer.net Internet Service Provider.  Actually, the office is only a few doors from the intersection of Routes 219, 250, 33, 92 and 55.  It’s a very busy place.  The new office is being remodeled and is under construction now.  The Elkins office is going to emphasize braces, cosmetics, and implants for now, with the possibility of adding more services as time goes on.  So, if you feel the need to have straighter, more beautiful, or replacement teeth, we’ll be glad to see you.  Hopefully you will be able to visit the new digs very soon.  Come and visit!

New Services

Miniature Dental Implants (MDI’s) are now easily used to hold loose dentures or partials in place, allowing upper dentures to be made without the palate (roof of the mouth) covered.  They REALLY help stabilize lower dentures, and at the same time, help prevent bone loss.  These mini-wonders can also have crowns placed on them, so you can really have your missing teeth replaced, and now you can do it in several ways.

New Promotion

How about this?  You will receive an 8x10 full face photo free if you come in for orthodontic records during the remainder of 2008.  The photo will be delivered at your consultation appointment.  If you have ever been interested in braces, now’s the time.  Just tell the staff you want an extra photo taken for your free 8x10.

Continuing Education

Dr. Larry continues to study and has every intention of becoming a better dentist every year. (So far, so good). Dr. Larry and his staff recently renewed their CPR certification. Also, Dr. Larry recently returned from a seminar with the faculty of the University of North Carolina where he studied prosthodontics, implants, and practice management. (Prosthodontics is the practice of replacing missing teeth using partial and complete dentures, implants, and bridges.)

Summer, 2008, also involves a seminar in Charleston, WV on IMTEC mini-dental implants. Dr. Larry is a particular enthusiast for these mini-implants in that they are more economical than their full-sized counterparts, and they can be placed and used in a remarkably short time. After their very simple placement, healing is very fast. Dr. Larry has been using these in his practice for several years and is an acquaintance of the doctor who teaches the seminar in Charleston. Additionally, IMTEC implants are the very same ones with which Dr. Larry is involved in research.

Dr. Larry continues also to study the latest techniques in Infection Control, which is a favorite subject area. As a matter of fact, Dr. Larry has taught the subject on several occasions both here in the USA and abroad. Can you tell that lifelong learning is a habit of his? That's why they call it "Continuing Education".

Research

Dr. Larry recently suggested some research to a major manufacturer of mini-dental implants (MDI’s).  They were pleased with his suggestions and are now considering a grant for research at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV and at University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC.  Dr. Larry is very proud to have been involved in the birth of this new project, as it has the potential to help thousands of patients.

Fun!!

Let's put Dr. Larry in the White House!

Dr. Larry and his family were recently guests for a personal tour of the White House in Washington, DC. Though pictures were not allowed inside, the tour included the oval office, the situation room, the cabinet meeting room, and the White House dining room. The Rose Garden was beautiful, and the West Wing in its entirety was filled with history and art that was breathtaking. The press room was really neat, 'cause we've all seen it on television.

While in the D.C. area, the family also visited Arlington Cemetery, the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the WWII and Vietnam Memorials, and the Women's Memorial. What an honor it was to see the memorials to our nation's patriots. Truly, Dr. Larry was moved by the experience. But..you know him....he had to get a little playful fun too.

That's him in front of the Washington Monument in a photo taken by his niece Samantha.

Oh, and if you wonder how Dr. Larry managed to get this tour INSIDE the White House, it was because his sister-in-law Karen Evans is the nation's administrator for E-Government and Information Technology. She was appointed to her position by the President himself and works inside the White House complex. Dr. Larry is really proud even if he doesn't understand most of what she does. Yeah, USA!!!

Beach Bum...

Dr. Larry and his family recently went to the beach! Isn't it great fun to play in the water and soak some rays? Sunsets and sunrises are always spectacular, and some of the storms are so very cool. Walking along the beach barefoot looking for seashells and enjoying the fresh air and exercise is just the greatest. But be careful..take the SPF sunscreen. It always pays to be safe......and SMILE.

Motorcycle Mania

You might not realize that Dr. Larry has always enjoyed motorcycles. During 2007 he obtained his current bike, a Suzuki Marauder 805cc. He loves to take it for rides among the beautiful scenic roadways of WV. The curves, the mountains, the rivers and streams...heck, what is not to love?
